WAIKATO CLUB.
THGG ANNUAL MEETING, CLASHING OF DATES. "When one realises the very trying period through which we have passed during the last five years, it is a matter for congratulation that this club is iu a stronger financial position to-day than it was six yeare ago," eaid Mr. H. W. Burch, president, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet at the annual meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club at Hamilton yesterday. There was a good attendance of members.
"This position has been achieved by strict economy and by the very valued assistance given by the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Government. While the weather on occasions has been an adverse factor, the opposition the club received, owing to the Avondale Jockey Club racing on the same day last year, caused a very serious lose to the club," continued the president.
"The amount paid in Government taxes by the club wae £1970 1/9, and the amount paid in stakes £2500. We all know the Government has had a trying time to make ends meet, and we hope that in the very near future circumstances will permit of some relief from the heavy burden of taxation now carried by racing. "I earneetly suggest to the incoming committee that every effort be made to ensure a larger membership. The committee has. made every effort tp carry ■members through without curtailing any privileges, and hope that this fact has been appreciated, and that members will use every endeavour to foster the club by keeping up their membership payments.
"The matter of this club obtaining any extra totalisator permits, if any are available, should always be kept in mind. A club like this, that has spent approximately £12,000 solely in the interests of trotting, requires every consideration. Jf we had one extra permit, in five years we would be in a strong financial position."
Mr. Bureh paid a high tribute to the services rendered by. Mr. T. Reynolds, who ie retiring. With regard to the appointment of Mr. W. H. Allen ae Mr. Reynolds' successor, he felt the club had 'been very fortunate in securing his services.
The report and balance-sheet were adopted as read.
An election for the committee was necessary, as there were nine nominations for the six vacancies. The following were puccesefiil; Messrs. W. T. C. Christie, T. Cr. Reynolds, A. E. Manning, T. Clarkin, A. Sutherland, and H. Windsor.
