AFTERNOON TEA PARTY.

LADY HERDMAN ENTERTAINS.

A delightful party was held in the lounge of the Lyceum Club yesterday afternoon, when Lady Herdman entertained a large number of her friends. The beautiful lounge lent itsc'.f admirably for such an occasion and' was enhanced by quantities of loveiy flowers. Most of the flowers had been brought by .Mrs. H. If. Partridge from hev garden in St. Hclicr's Bay, and they included numerous beautiful blooms and rare foliage. Set iu tho niches above the fireplaces were bowls of scarier, spmdlebcrry which linked up with the llame of the fires that burned in the grates and formed a picture in itself. Australian bottle-brush added a further note of bright colour to the scene. Low bowls of deep red roses and violets were set on the small tables and on the stage wera masses of flowering plants and greenery. Tall vases of golden coloured sumach leaves added considerably to the effect. Lady Herdman received her guests wearing a frock of black crepe romain in a floral design under a black cloth coat trimmed with a very deep collar ot silver fox fur and a small black felt hat with eye-veil. She was assisted by her daughter, Miss Joyce Herdman, who was in Liberty silk patterned in rich autumn colouring and a smart little black velvet beret. Miss Herdman was the recipient of many good wishes from her friends in connection with her recentlyannounced engagement. During the afternoon a number of charming songs were sung by Mrs. Hugh Corbin and Mrs. J. Tighc. Among the invited guests were: Lady Sinelair-Loekhart, Lady Robertson, Lady Elliot, Lady Leys, Lady Richardson, Mrs. Avcrill, Mrs. J. F. Ewen, Mrs. David Nathan, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. G.
