LOCAL BODIES.
ONEHUNGA. Mr. E. Morton, the Mayor, presided at the meeting of the Uiijhunga Borough Council last night. Relief Workers. —The foreman reported that -107 men were engaged on relief work muter the No. 5 scheme, this number about 200 less than that employed last winter. Xlio Mayor said tiiat the council was not getting satisfactory results from relief labour on the basin reseive, and he suggested that a selection should be made ot 3U or 40 married men who should be employed at 14/ a day for three or six months. Mr. S. Vella supported the suggestion, which was referred to the council m committee. Confidence in Foreman.—Tn reply to a complaint from a relief worker that the foreman had charged him with theft, the council decided not to interfere in the matter, having full eontideuec in the foreman, and considering that he only did his duty. Arbor Day.—The reserve committee will report on a request from the Minister of Internal Allans that Arbor Day should be observed on the first Wednesday in August, and what should be done to organise a suitable celebration on that day. Tenders. —The council accepted the tender of £333 11/8 received from Messrs. McUartcn Bioh. for the removal of refuse in the borough for twelve months. The only other tender received was of £351 from 11. Bray and Co.
NEW LYNN. A meeting of the New Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. Gco. Lawson, presided, other members present being Messrs. A. Jeffrey, Geo. Soverne, A. Woollcy, S. Hards, ¥. Carter and C. Drury. Bunk Overdraft. —A letter was received from the' Minister of Finance in reply to the council's application for authority to raise a loan for the purpose of funding the amount borrowed by way of bank overdraft under the Local Bodies Finance Act, 1921-22. lie stated that there was no legislative authority under which a loan might be raised for such a purpose. Storm Damage.—The works committee reported upon a tour of inspection following last week's storm. Much damage was done in various parts of the borough, particularly where the work was not sufficiently consolidated to stand the strain of flood water. The council resolved to hold a, special meeting on Monday next to deal with the matter. GLEN EDEN. Glen Eden Town Board met last evening, Mr. A. J. Eoutley presiding. Assessments.—The clerk was instructed to write to the clerk of the Magistrate's Court requesting that an assessment court bo set up to consider objections to the farm lands list of the district-. Library Donation.—Consideration of a donation to the libary committee was deferred until estimates are prepared.
