HORSES FOR TRENTHAM
TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE. KING MUSK SHAPES WELL. LORD VAL AND WEE PAT IMPRESS. A heavy fog enveloped the track at Ellerslie early this morning, but lifted shortly after work commenced. It again came down during the breakfast interval, but cleared by the time work was resumed. No. 1 grass was available for horses with engagements at the Wellington meeting, tilie No. 3 track being open for other horses. The going was holding, and in consequence no fast times were recorded. No. I Grass. Wee Pat (Williams) and Lord Val (Wiggins) completed a round in 1.58 3-0. They ra-n the last six furlongs in 1.24 4-5, and the final half-mile in 58 2-ss. Lord Val was doing best at the finish, though Wee Pat, wlio had the worse of the' weights, also shaped well. Zane Grey and Cargen did strong w*rk over a mile and a half, completing their last round in 2.5 1-5. It was a good work-out,, though they were not doing their best at any. part of it. The stablemates Wee Musk and .Free Air traversed a round in--2.0 3-5, the last eix furlongs occupying--1.26 4-o. Both worked well, particularly Free Air. King Musk ran seven furlongn in 1.35 1-5. Ho began slowly, but finished on solidly, running his last half-mile in 53 3-ss. Billy Boy and United got to the end of a round , in 2.1 1-5, the last sis furlongs being covered in 1.27 4-5. United was just in front at the end. No. 3 Grass. Kelly and Spearcourt were allotted an easy six furlongs, which they covered in 1.27 1-5. This . pair have wintered well, and are making first rate progress. Hawthorn, Jewelled Girdle and Gay Song, after running their first three furlongs in die, got to the end of six furlongs in 1.23 4-5. ' Hawthorn, who w r as on the outside, did his work well, and the other pair also shaped very satisfactorily. Solomon was given serviceable work, but was not doing better than 15s to the furlong. Golden Wedding was timed to run the last half-mile of her work in 56 2-ss. This mare has improved a good deal in condition during the last few weeks. Other horses allotted useful tasks were Patutahi, Imamint, My Money, Gay Broney, Euling King, Chief Emerald, Master Bruce, Jalldy Karo, Neil and Master Hex. Several juveniles were also worked on the two-year-old track. DUE TO LEAVE NEXT WEEK. Wee Pat, Patutahi, Lord Val, Horowhenua, Wee Musk and Free Air will probably leave for Trentham on Monday next to fulfil engagements at the Wellington Racing Chib'e winter meeting. Arrangements are being made to rail Billy Boy and King Musk at the same time. J. Mcßae, will ride Wee Pat, and J. Burgess Patutahi. F. Thompson has been engaged to ride Billy Boy at Wellington, and will also be on him at the Grand National meeting. A. G. Parsons has been engaged to pilot King Musk.
