NORTHERN LINE.
DUPLICATION WANTED MQRNINGSIDE—MEW LYNN. EMXXOYSEENT ASPECT. A decision to press for tl:e cl'ipl'eation of tlie railway line from Morninasidc to New Lynn was mnde at a meeting of the Northern Suburban Railways and Highways League, held at New Lynn. The following resolution was carried: "That this conference deems it advisable that the duplication ov part-ilup'icatiou of the northern line should be taken up with the Government, in view of the fact that the duplication of the line from Moi'uingside to New Lynn was estimated ill the Railway Statement. 1!>21, to cost £107,000. We believe that nt the present time, in conjunction with the Unemployment Ttoard and Ilailway Board, the'work could be done at much less cost and provide work for married men." The conference! also carried a resolution expressing the opinion that on the north line the tablet system should be dispensed with and the line electrified, also that the time initfli t be opportune for the introduction of petrol rail cars which would replace a number of heavy trains now being used. It was stated that the present service was slow, and subject to many delays. The decision of the conference has bepn communicated to various interested members of Parliament. The Glen Eden Town Board, at its meeting, supported the league's resolution. It was pointed out that the northern line has ns ninny as 4f> trains daily from Monday to Friday, and I!" on Saturdays running on a single track line.
