QUOTA POSTPONED?
Britain Expected to Subsidise Home Producer. MEAT IMPORTATION. LONDON, June 22. The "Daily Herald" political writer states that as the result of a talk between the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Walter Elliot, and the Australian High Commissioner, Mr. S. M. Bruce, any. attempt to impose a quota 011 imported meat from the Dominions will be postponed until the end of this year. Mr. Bruce pointed out that this would be a most unfavourable moment to raise the question in view of the pending general election in Australia and the visit to that country of the Duke of Gloucester. Mr. Elliot, therefore, will provide a subsidy for British producers. This is likely to amount to £5,000,000 a year and will be conditional upon the industry being drastically reorganised.
