NATIVE TREES IN THE DOMAIN.

It was very gratifying, to read that the Railways Department liad decided to plant native trees about -the railway station. That is a step in the right direction, and could well bo followed by other public bodies. The Domain, for instance, lends itself admirably to tsncli planting scheme, and if the City Council were to secure the services of an c.\|>ert who was fully conversant -with our native flora and give him a few of the unemployed, who are at 'present engaged in picking the ■ weeds off the drive, and let him go ahead replanting in a scientific manner, the Domain would eventually be come one of the show places of the city. At> to the new traffic outlet that it is proposed to put through the Domain, two years ago the Press and public opinion expressed themselves as strongly opposed to any more filching of the Domain for roads, and to-day they sire of t'he same opinion, only more so. By the "way, for many years there was a notice on the old puriri over the waterfall, which read: "Citizens, protect your property," but some time ago it, mysterious! v disappeared. That notice is "more necessary to-day than ever it was. E. HOWARD.
