UNUSUAL MOTH.
OF PEACOCK VARIETY.
DISCOVERY AT WANGANUI. IS IT ANOTHER PEST ? (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, this day. Last year it was reported that a lady who resides on St. John's Hill had secured an unusual type of moth, with a wingspreacl of some three inches. Mr. J. B. Hogg, agricultural instructor for the Wanganui Education Board, has been
interesting himself in tho matter, and at tho Tawliero school yesterday he secured from ono of the pupils a cocoon which is believed to bo that of the same variety of moth.
Mr. Hogg was informed that some similar cocoons had also been found by other children in tho district. He believes tho moth is one of the Australian peacock variety, but its identity will not be established until tho cocoon is hatched.
If the surmise proves correct, then it is evident that another pest destructive to the foliage of tho acacia tree and other shrubs has been brought into the country.
