CRUISER'S REPAIRS.

TROUBLE IN DIOMEDE. DEPARTURE POSTPONED. A postponement of the departure of 11.M.5. Dioinede from Auckland 011 her Island cruise has been necessitated owing to tho discovery of a fault similar to that which kept the other cruiser, Dunedin, in dock for an extended period. The work or repairing the bracket which supports the port tailshaft near the propeller is to be done by shore labour under the direction of Seagal - Brothers, Limited, who were the contractors for the more extensive repairs to the flagship of the New Zealand Division. The Dioinede was to have sailed 011 Monday after her overhaul in dock in preparation for the cruise to the Pacific Islands, but it is not now likely that she will get away before Wednesday, and she may be delayed until next Saturday. Captain Cosmo Graham is in command of the Dioinede.

This is the third instance of trouble discovered in the preparatory overhaul this year, as lI.Ms. Laburnum was delayed slightly 111 her departure by the discovery of a fault in one of her boilers. This sloop is to be replaced next year by 11.M.5. Wellington, a modern type of sloop, and a sister ship to the 11.Ms. Leith, due in October, which is replacing the Veronica. The replacement, of the- two cruisers, however, has not been finally settled as far as is known. Both were built at the end of the war, and there was a suggestion some months ago that they would probably be replaced by modern cruisers of the Leander type.
