EXTENSIVE DRAINAGE.
KAIHXJ VALLEY SCHEME.
{By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day.
\ Land owners in the Kailiu Valley and also those between Babylon and Mamarunui are negotiating with the Public Works Department engineers for an extensive drainage scheme to dewater about 3000 acres of good fertile-land which throughout the year is mostly in a waterlogged condition. The scheme was outlined a couple of years ago, but the land owners could not attain unanimity among themselves, and the Departmental officers, who at that time keenly supported the scheme, allowed the matter to drift. The settlers now propose to make a contribution of about 20/ an acre, Or its equivalent value in land toward the cost.
