JARDINE ON LARWOOD.

SUGGESTION OF VICTIMISATION (Received 11.80 a.m.) LONDON, June 18. D. R. Jardine, writing in the "Evening Standard," says any suggestion of victimising the decade's best bowler leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth. There seems a danger of some people losing their sense of balance to a degree which if sufficiently multiplied might approach the lack of balance displayed in Australia in the 1932-3 season. Politicians who go whooping into the arenas of sport do little to help anyone to retain a sense of proportion. "I think the only thing to stop Larwood from being a devastating success would bo his fear of hitting a batsman and the inevitable howl going up. Crooked thinking is partly responsible for the deadlock. Some counties could not carry on without Test profits, and so are not free to vote for anything endangering their share. It would be more honest to say they won't have legtheory bowling because it affects the receipts, or to admit that Larwood is so good that he must be penalised by legislation. lam very thankful lam no longer actively concerned." J. T. Carson, in the "Evening News," says: "Most cricketers in England will agree with me when I say I don't care whether Larwood plays or not. I admit he is the only fast bowler in England, but his inclusion in the team has never been so important that he is indispensable."
