Sir Stanley Jackson announced tonight that "three men whom the selectors hoped would bo fit have replied that they were unfit. The committee, therefore, must to-morrow reconsider the composition of the team, the balance of the side has been entirely upset. Larwood has adhered to his decision not to play in the Tests." Larwood, while fielding at Trent Bridge, received a telegram which he showed to and discusscd with A. W. Carr, and then put in his pocket.
