SOUTH ISLAND DISPUTE. INTER-COLLEGIATE TOURNEY. SCHOOLS AND THE UNIONS. (l>y i'di-graph.—press Association.) INVERCARGILL, this day. Reference to the deadlock regarding the Island secondary schools tournament was made at a meeting of tile Southland lvugby Union last nignt by Mr. R. T. Meredith, who suggested that they should k-et in touch with the Otago and Canterbury Unions and see it: something could be done to get the tournament under way again. It was too valuable an event to let slip into oblivion. Mr. A. J. Ueddes had said the question was a delicate one for the union. The schools had always run tournaments themselves. He favoured the age limit that had been suggested, but it was a debatable point whether terms students were actually school pupils for the purpose of deciding eligibility. It was decided to write to the Canterbury and Otago Unions, expressing regret that such a position had arisen and inquiring if anything could be done to get the parties together and have the fixtures gone on with.
