FORMER WAIKERIA INMATE. OPPORTUNITY TO REFORM. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. "It seems that you cannot go straight," commented Mr. S. L. Patersoii, S.M., in sentencing James Montague, labourer, aged "27" years, to a year's reformative detention for stealii;nr a quantity of tools, the property of Albert Arthur Hawker, at Hamilton. Accused pleaded guilty and said he had endeavoured to go straight since he was discharged from Waike-ria on March 10 Inst, but people hounded him about and drove him from pillar to post. Senior Sergeant Power denied this and explained that few people knew accused litre. Ho had had every chance to reform.
