PARNELL SCHOOL SITE.
NO BIDS FOR ONE BLOCK. "All that' valuable freehold block, having *)00 feet frontage to Parnell Road. 40*1 feet frontage to Alpha Road, and 211 feet to Sehvvn Terrace, for many years occupied by the Parnell Public School." So read the auctioneers' advertisement announcing the sale by auction thk morning of the old Parnell School site, but when the fcite was offered by Messrs. T. Mandeno .Jackson there were no bids.
TTio auctioneer suggested starting at £6000. A man asked if there was a reserve. "You will soon find out if you start, the bidding," replied the auctioneer amid laughter, but later admitted "that, there was a reserve. After making a final appeal for even £1000 the auctioneer passed in the lot.
A member of the firm of T. Mandeno Jackson , stated afterwards that the block was too large to offer as one lot, and lie thought business men were unwilling to invest in such' Targe blocks of citv land. He considered tliat if the property was divided into sections there would be 110 difficulty in disposing of it.
