ONE OFF CENTURY.

MAN'S MANY OFFENCES

"These two offences bring accused's total to one off the century," commented Senior-Detective Hall, in the Police Court this morning, in reference to Ernest Edward Cuthbertson Maxey, aged 53, described as a labourer and storekeeper. Accused pleaded guilty to two charges of stealing silk, of a total value of £2 5/, the property of Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd.

It was stated that accused had admitted stealing the silk, on two separate occasions, when nobody was looking. Some of the silk had "been sold to dressmakers. Accused had stated that he had been under the influence of liquor. In mentioning accused's long list of offences, Senior-Detective Hall said that all but eight of them were the result of drink.

Accused was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
