BUILDING SUBSIDY.
SCHEME NOT A SUCCESS ? (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) . NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. "I hope the building subsidy scheme is dead' for ever," said Mr. A. F. Sandford, himself a master builder, when the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce last night discussed the proposal of the Wellington chamber that the building subsidy scheme should be revived.
Mr. Sandford said it would be better to allow the building industry to recover [naturally. Wlieu the scheme was introduced there had been a rush of building, but it was followed by a serious slump. The industry was again recovering and he advised that it be left alone. Mr. S. E. Shaw, president of the chamber, said the scheme was a good one, for the reason that it brought idle money into circulation. The chamber decided to take 110 action.
