ARBOR DAY.

FIRST WEDNESDAY IN AUGUST (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. It' has been decidcd that in future the first Wednesday in August each year shall be observed as Arbor Day. states a Gazette notice to-night. Local bodies, therefore, are requested to observe Wednesday, August 1, this year as Arbor Day. In view of the national importance of tree-planting, it is desired that every effort should be made to organise suitable celebrations on this date. Where it is found that on account of local climatic conditions in ally district the day is deemed to be not suitable, then such districts are invited to observe another day.
