MUSICIAN'S LAPSE.
STOLE A FRIEND'S GUITAR. INSTRUMENT IN PAWN. When Henry Alexander Peelua Bishaw (44), a musician, decided to pawn a guitar which was not his own property he took a step which led to trouble. In the Police Court this morning he was charged with stealing the guitar, valued at £6, the property of Alice Mary Stevens. He pleaded guilty. Senior Detective Hall said that on March 27 complainant lent accused the guitar on the condition that he should return it. When complainant asked for the instrument back Bishaw aways made some excuse. Eventually he admitted he had pawned it for £1, and the instrument had now been recovered. Accused had not been in trouble before.
In reply to a question, Bishaw said he had no money at present.
"I suppose necessity drove him to it," commented the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt. "I will give him a chance and will place him on probation for twelve months, but he will have to refund the money." In asking that his name should be suppressed Bishaw said that he was a married man with three children.
Senior Detective Hall: I understand that his wife and children are in Australia, sir.
Mr. Hunt: Oh, he is not supporting them! lam not going to make any order under those conditions.
