FOOTBALL DISPUTE.
MARIST LEAGUE CLUB. EIGHT PLAYERS CONCERNED. As the result of a disagreement in the Marist Old Boys' Rugby League Club, eight players did not appear with the senior teams last week. One, W. Hassan, the half-back, applied to the Rugby Union for reinstatement in the Rugby Union code, and his name appears in the Marist Rugby Union team chosen to play to-morrow. The players concerned are C. Dunn, D. Herring, G. Campbell, W. Hassan, Schultz brothers (3), and C. List, of whom List, Campbell and Hassan have played for New Zealand. In an official statement issued to-day it was stated that several committee members and some players were dissatisfied on a point of club finance, whether portion of expenditure should apply to senior players alone or be devoted to general club services, including juniors. It was found legally essential to hold the annual meeting over again in order to cortect previous unconstitutional procedure. Apparently this cr>.used the eight players mentioned to attempt to embarrass the club by_ adopting an attitude of passive resistance. Realising it was possible that the players were being misled, the club made every effort to reason with them, and the committee was fortunate to find it had the co-operation of many young players willing and capable of .assisting in an emergency. The senior team fielded on Saturday showed the public that this internal dispute had in no way interfered with the club's progressive activities. The players concerned have been officially asked to appear at the club's exeeutfre meeting early next week.
