SCORCHING HEAT.
Severe Drought Conditions in 'America. PLAN OF FARM RELIEF. CHICAGO, June 3. Although a weather forecast suggests general showers over the drought area on both sides of a line extending south into Kansas, scorching temperatures still prevail ill the sun-blistered, farming areas. The sun is searing the crops on millions of acres, and the- heat wave is worse than anything the United States has ever experienced. It is unabated in two-thirds of the country and is spreading eastward. Forty deaths directly attributable to the heat have been reported, and cattle have died on barren and waterless ranges. The crop losses are mounting, water supplies in the great cities are threatened, and human suffering lias grown as the temperatures have riswi for the sixth successive day. Drought relief measures are contemj plated "in Washington. These include an appropriation of 100,000.000 dollars for distribution among needy farmers, and a year's moratorium on all farm indebtednesses held by the Federal Government.
