RUAWARO INQUIRY.
DETECTIVE'S ADMISSIONS.
PROTRACTED GROSS-EXAMINATION.
WOMAN'S STORY OF A BLUE CAR.
Under a barrage of cross-examination by senior counsel for the defence, Detective Thomas Sneddon was taken over many points at the continuation of the trial this morning of William Alfred Bayly, v aged 28, the Ruawaro farmer. Accused is charged with murdering his neighbours, Christoble and Samuel Pender Lakey. This is the eleventh day of the trial.
In the course of searching cross-examination, one of the many points brought out was that a woman had told the detective she had seen a blue car like Bayly's travelling towards Ruawaro about 5 o'clock on the morning of October 16. That car, said the detective, was not thought to be Bayly's.
