MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.
Mabakipawa (Marlborough).—During the fortnight ended May 23 No. 3 blocking strip off sontb-east drive .was advanced to 149 ft through fair wash. For the last 10ft lite bottom was rising sharply. This is now stopped. The No. 1 blocking strip off No. X crosscut is 49ft long and is showing of bottom rock in the face. Tbe wash is still carrying gold. The No. 3 blocking strip off No. 1 crosscut was continued 14ft, total 31ft, through sandy wash showing some gold. There was an average of 4ft of bottom on the east side and only 2ft on tlie west side of this strip, indicating that we were driving along the edge of the gutter. A crosscut east (No. 14) was started 52ft south of No. 1 crosscut west and extended 19ft in good grade wash, where it finished up against the edge of the gutter. A blocking strip was taken alongside this for the same distance in good grade wash. A (blocking strip (No 1) parallel with No. 13 east crosscut has been taken out for 21ft In poor wash. A crosscut west (No. 2) has been started 43ft south of No. 1 and driven 12ft in I promising-looking wash. The yardage treated for the period was 237 cubic yards.
Dawn of Hope (Tbamesl.— Driving ward on tbe hangiugwall droprar of the Golden Age reef was continued, the distance driven for the week being 4ft. A breaking-down of the reef showed irold freely and a small amount of picked stor.e was "selected. The dropper is still arlit in two parts with tnullock between. The portion carrying the values is the northern branch, about 31b In width.
