DENSITY TEST MOOTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. At the annual meeting of the Dunedin Rowling Centre last night, the matter.of Henselite bowls was discussed, and a chart was submitted showing the density of the various makes of bowls, according to the Firth hardometer test. Under this test the density of lignum vitae was given as 31 and henselite as 50, this being easily the highest of all makes. . The following resolution was carried : — The delegates to the Dunedin Centre, being convinced that Henselite bowls in use locally have done damage to and thus proved injurious to wooden bowls, request the council of the Dominion Bowling Association, before granting its approval of Henselite howls, to consider carefully (1) whether the high density test of Henselite bowls in comparison with wooden bowls will not lead to premature and speedy deterioration of wooden howls, which form approximately 95 per cent of the bowls In use in New Zealand; (2) whether the time has not arrived, in the interests of the preservation of wooden bowls, to adopt a recognised density test for all bowls, and fix by such a test the maximum hardness or density that may be permitted in any future type of composition bowl being introduced into New Zealand.
