GIRL GUIDES.
There is a noticeable number of new recruits in the various girl guides' companies in Auckland. A record number of entries were received for the brownie swimming sports, and an increased number of spectators. In the beginners' race there were 45 entries, these being brownies who had learned to swim this year. Mrs. E. McNair, head of brownies for the province, presented the shield to the Takapuna pack. The standard of swimming in all packs was high for children so young. _ On April 9 companies from every district will compete for the Wilson swimming shield. .Owing to the removal of the Dominion headquarters to Hastings it has been necessary for the Auckland provincial headquarters to extend its offices. Funds are low, and in order to supplement them a fete has been arranged for next Saturday, in the beautiful garden of Mrs. T. C. Savage, Orakei Road, Remuera. Mrs. W. R. Wilson will open the fete. If the weather is unfavourable the fete will be transferred to St. Mark's Hall.
