LUNCHEON CLUB.
TALK ON MAORI LIFE. The Auckland Women's Luncheon Club held its first function for the year at Milne's Tudor Hall on Tuesday. The president, Mrs. O'Halloran, presided over a large gathering of members, and Mrs. Kennings .and Miss Waddingham acted as hostesses.
The speaker was Mr. Fisher, of the Auckland Museum, who gave a very interesting talk 011 Maori life. Some of their ancient weapons were displayed, and a demonstration given of the drill whereby the Maori of long ago made holes in his weapons and his old stone lisliing sinker. Another interesting object, <a mutu-kaka, or bird snare, was demonstrated, indicating how the old Maori fowler secured his victims. Some primitive tools with which wonderful results were obtained, in greenstone particularly, were exhibited. Mrs. Griffin thanked Mr. Fisher for his interesting and informative talk, and members then examined tho various curios at close quarters, when Mr. Fisher supplied further details to many enthusiastic questioners.
