"NATURAL CAUSES"
DEATH IN STREET.
MAN FOUND CLOSE TO CAFE. VERDICT AT INQUEST. A verdict (.hat death was due to natural causes was returned by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., yesterday afternoon, in the Magistrate's Court, at the inquest concerning the death of a single man, Robert Cramond Ashton (44), who was found dead on the pavement in Hobson Street, near a cafe early oil the morning of March 3. Mr. McKean said that the post-mor-tem examination made by Dr. G.lmour showed that death was due to cerebral hemorrhage. "This," said Mr. McKean, "was of such a kind that the doctor is of the opinion that death was due to natural causes and not to blows or to a fall. The bruise was not fresh. Since the actual post-mortem a microscopical examination of the blood from the bruise has actually been made and shows that the bruise most certainly occurred some hours before death. It is extraordinary that I have some evidence that deceased was struck —one witness says so definitely. Whether deceased was struck or not has no bearing on the cause of death. The mail, for some days prior to when he entered the cafe, was a sick man." The coroner said he had no reason for thinking that the proprietor "would wish to strike the man. The witness Reardon. a man with experience in first aid, said that he could not smell liquor on deceased. "It is perfectly clear that death was due to natural causes," concluded the coroner, who gave his verdict accordingly.
