PETROL TAX.

VEHICLES ON FARMS. All petrol consumed in a licensed motor vehicle is liable for taxation, irrespective of whether it is used on roads or on a farm, according to a ruling the Commissioner of Transport, Mr. J. S. Hunter, has given the Auckland provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. The executive yesterday decided to send the following reply to the commissioner:—"Reconsideration of this matter is asked for. It is obvious that a- truck or van used on a farm constantly for feeding out, ensilage making, or carrying manure, would be worn out mainly in farm work and be only occasionally on the road, yet it could not be on the road at all without registration."
