RUGBY FOOTBALL.
SPILLANE CUP CONTEST. MAR IST XV.'S FOR BLANDFORD PARK. This Faster the Spillane Cup tournament, nil annual Rugby fixture lor Marist football clubs in the North Island, will be held at Blandfonl Park, Auckland. The tournament was first held in lO.'iO, when Hamilton, Wellington (holders), Auckland and Wanganui competed. Later Napier joined up with the Spillane Association, to be followed by Gisborne.
The public should be treated to an excellent display of Rugby at this tournament, as there are two club champions of last year in their respective districts (Auckland and Gisborne), as well as two run-ners-up (Napier and Hamilton). Wellington and Wanganui complete the six teams competing. This number will necessitate the playing of games on Faster Saturday morning, as well as the afternoon, and the two leading teams will play the final 011 Faster Monday afternoon. Included in the programme w the Moran Cup for the best defensive team ia the competition. The teams from Wellington, Wanganui and Napier will arrive by train on Good Friday morning, and at least 20 members will be in each team. These club teams will be at full strength, and at least 20 various provincial representatives will be seen in action. The Auckland club is sparing no effort to make the tournament a success, and social arrangements are well I in hand.
