VOCAL COMPETITION.
NEW ZEALANDER WINS. INTERNATIONAL PRIZE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Wednesday. Adjutant Gofiin, of the Salvation Army at Napier, has wou the first prize in the international vocal competition held auuually among members of the Salvation Army. The secoud place was gained by a competitor in South Africa, and the third prize went to Sweden. Adjutant Goffiu has composed several marches which are used by the Salvation Army. The international vocal competition is adjudicated in London each year and, ou this last occasion, representatives oi 82 countries competed. The competitors supply words and music suitable for use in the Salvation Army. Adjutant Gofiin has received no monetary profit from the marches which he has already composed, the royalties from these, amounting to several hundreds of pounds, being absorbed for the good of the Salvation Army. His composition 1 which won first prize in the vocal competition will be published probably next month, and in due course copies will be received in Ivcw Zealand. Pbey will be used by the Salvation Army in this Dominion and in other parts of the world.
