SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A most •enjoyable afternoon was spent at the Farmers' tea rooms on Wednesday, in aid of the Mount Albert "Welfare League. Mrs. X. W. Campbell acted as hostess. The prize winners were Mrs. Clayton and Mrs. Rich. Among tlie players were: —Mesdames K. C. Turner, E. Rich, Duke Clayton, Neil Campbell, A. Hay, F. Jarret. M. Graham, ('. Richards. L. Woolston, R. Campbell and N. W. Campbell.
Mrs. W. R. Wilson has consented to open the garden fete for the Auckland girl guides on Saturday, March 24, at Mrs. Orakei Road, Remuera. This will be a very memorable day to the guides of Auckland, for, although Mrs. Wilson is no longer their chief commissioner, she will ever be very dear to all in the movement. ller love and inspiration has been with guiding here, from the earliest, days, and while her duties extended all over the Dominion, Auckland division lias always felt that she belonged more particularly to them.
Mrs. A. E. Hammer, of Sea view Road, entertained a large number of friends on Tuesday evening to meet Mrs. R. J. Watts and Mrs. G. Sises, of Dunedin. The lounge and living room were arranged for dancing, and were beautifully decorated with shades of pink dahlias. Bridge was arranged for non-dancers. Mrs. Hammer received her guests in a pastel pink spiderweb lace frock: Mrs. "Watts was in Burgundy souple faille; and Mrs. Sises wore black georgette, trimmed with sequins. Among those present were: Mesdames W. Wat kins. A. Ceruttv, Nello Porter, Kelsey, Fred North, A. Bullock, Culpan. Gordon, Misses Jean Marriner. Jean Moore, Rattigan, Joy Porter, Elsie Glenn, and Marjorie C'erutty.
A very happy time was spent last Sunday at the "home of Mrs. M. Fleming, Wharf Road, Pail mil re, the occasion being in celebration of her 80th birthday. Mrs. Fleming lias lived her whole life in the district, and besides a full attendance of her family and grandchildren there were present many of her school mates and oldest friends, including Mrs. M. .T. Cronin, Mrs. Sims, Mrs. Gavin and Mrs. Rankin. Two large birthday cakes supporting 80 candles were features of the beautifully decorated table. During the evening musical items were given by Mrs. ,T. Clarke and AT 1-. Paul Drumm, and games and dancing were continued by the younger guests until a late hour.
