LONDON SALES OPEN. FAIRLY STRONG COMPETITION. BUT PRICES LOWER. (Received 11 a.m.) LOXDON, March 0. At the wool sales 79,55 bales were offered, including 2554 New Zealand, and of which 3277 bales were sold. There was a moderate selection, and a large attendance with keen general bidding. Continent als were must active, with some Yorkshire support. Compared with February closing. Merinos (greasy) show 5 per cent decline, scoured.-, par to 5 per cent lower, crossbreds, medium, o to 10 per cent, lower, coarse 10 per cent lower, slipes 10 per cent lower. Xo line eiossbreda were offered. New Zealand cro-sbred lamb slipc, top price 18d, average I7 I ,id. "Fundamentally Sound." The "Yorkshire Post" says that the fall of 5 per cent in Merinos and fine crossbred would not create inu-givingp. Aii overwhelming body ot' opinion believes the position i« fundamentally sound. German activity is expected to influence the sale, as they habitually pay much attention to wool offered in London, and also has thus far bought lens than usual iu Australia. THE BANK'S REPORT. The Bank of Xew Zealand has received the following advice from iu London office, under date of March 6:—The sales have opened with fairly strong competition. Compared with the close of last series, Merinos and fine rrossbreds ure at par to Vid lower, and medium and coarse crossbreds are %d to Id lower.
