HAND PORTRAITS.
NEW PHOTOGRAPHIC IDEA.
It may one <lay be as fashionable to have tho portrait of your hands taken as the photograph of your face. Anyway, there would seem to be a tendency in this direction in Paris, since a smart society photographer, a believer in chiromancy, recently persuaded a number of distinguished persons to have their portraits taken with their hands held up in front of or beside their faces. After having an examination made of the pictures of the hands by someone he guarantees to lave been unaware of tho identity of the sitters, the photographer has published some of these portraits, accompanied by estimates of character. Interest in the idea has spread, even among people who are sceptical as to the value of these expert estimates, for it is generally agreed that tho photographs of tho hands are remarkable and show the most eloquent differences. Hands can be as individual as faces, it is found, and they have their own charm and expression. Furthermore, now that surgeons can treat criminals' hands and so distort their fingerprints, it may be found necessary to photograph the complete hand aa means of identifying convictcd and suspected persons. You have only to glance at some of these new photographs to see how useful a course this might be.
It is suggested that fair sitters having only their hands photographed may send them to their cavaliers to ascertain whether or no they are recognised. Gentlemen in Paris will havo to pay greater attention to the hands of their ladies than once they did—it may become father a feat of memory with some Frenchmen, where quite a number of hands are concerned!
