COMMERCE CHAMBER.

MR. A. G. LUNN PRESIDENT.

ELECTION OF COMMITTEES

The retiring president, Mr. Harvey Turner, presided to-day at the annual meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, held in Milne and Clioycc s reception hall. The motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet was seconded by Mr. C. 11. Bennett and carried. 'Mr. Harold Hudson spoke on the necessity for arranging a thorough classification of the membership so that every interest would be effectively represented in the chambers activities. He detailed the methods adopted by the London Chamber of Commerce and suggested that the incoming committee should take the matter up.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follow: —President, Mr. A. G. Lunn; vice-president, Mr. Gainor Jackson; committee, Messrs. A. M. Seaman, W. A. Boucher, G. S. Poole, G. J. Browne, T. H. Bowie, H. T. Merritt, C. E. Clinkard, A. E. Playle and L. D. Nathan. There were 15 nominations. Auditor, Mr. N. A. Duthie.

In taking over the position of president, Mr. A. G. Lunn said that in accepting the position for the third time lie did so with gratitude for the confidence that had been placed in him, but with regret that there were not sufficient young men coining on from whom members might have chosen a successor to Mr. Turner. He warned members that if responsible members of the community were not prepared to make some sacrifice of their personal business, interests and pleasure to assist in the councils of the country a state of affairs might arise that all would have cause to deplore. Mr. Lunn concluded his remarks by paying a warm tribute to the work of the retiring president, Mr. Harvey Turner.
