ROYAL SHOW.

OPENING NEXT THURSDAY. NUMEROUS ATTRACTIONS. The first Royal Show to be held in Auckland since 1926 will open at the Epsom Showgrounds next Thursday. Arrangements are practically completed, and the pavilions and other structures on the grounds present a fresh, clean appearance with their new coats of paint. A feature of the opening day will be' a programme of horse riding, athletic and other events in the evening, illuminated by powerful floodlights. Judges will begin work on their long list of stock exhibits at 0 a.m. on Thursday and will continue judging throughout the day. The show will close at 5 p.m., reopening at 7 p.m. for the gymkhana. Friday will be children's day, and riding competitions and a parade of children's pets will be held. Events in the hunter section will also be staged and the sheep dog trials started. On Saturday, the final day, the grand parade of show stock will be held and followed by a parade of motor vehicles. The military display of the 18th Medium Battery, Northern Coast Artillery, will follow the parades. Other attractions planned for "people's day" include a gymnastic display by pupils of the Seddon Memorial Technical Col-lege,-the finals of the sheep dog trials, an exhibition by the Pakuranga Hunt Club's hounds and steer riding competitions.

The first arrivals of stock from the South are due on Monday. They will be transferred to the many paddocks and stalls provided for them in the vicinity of the Showgrounds. A further large area has been placed at the disposal of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association by the Auckland Racing Club. This additional paddock will greatly assist in the billeting of the large number of animals that are entered for the show.

The modern trend in transport is sliown by the fact that a consignment of stock from Gisborne is to come by road. The covered lorries will leave on Sunday and expect to reach Auckland 011 Tuesday. For the convenience of the many exhibitors and stock attendants who will use the Eeniuera railway station, the association has arranged for a refreshment booth to be established there. It will open 011 Monday and remain in operation until the conclusion of the show. No charge will be made for tea and light refreshments.
