Extraordinary Precautions With Gangster. ■ * ' - I- , ' AMERICAN DESPERADO. . NEW YORK, January 31. A message from Crown Point, Indiana, states that John Dillihger, who was arrested at Tucson, Arizona, on charges of robbery and murder, was safely locked in the gaol there last evening to await his trial. Officers conveyed the man from Tucson by aeroplane. The most elaborate precautions in the criminal history 'of • the country were taken for ■ fear of a .possible attempt by gangsters to liberate Dillinger. When tlie aeroplane landed at Chicago 117 heavily-armed policemen surrounded it arid escorted Dillinger to a waiting motor car. Then, under a guard of 61 policemen armed with machine-guns and revolvers, and wearing bullet-proof vests, the accused was taken to Crown Point.' - 1 The guard was under orders to kill their prisoner if , any attempt was made to rescue him, A special party of policemen and deputy-sheriffs with machineguns is guarding the gaol, inside and outside.;, .
