THE CHOSEN.
AUSTRALIA'S TEAM,
WOODFULL SKIPPER. Grimmett and Fleetwood-Smith For England. CHIPPERFIELD ONLY SURPRISE ,United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 12.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The following team of cricketcrs has been selected to represent Australia 011 the forthcoming tour of England:— W. M. Woodfull (Victoria). W. H. Fonsford (Victoria). L. S. Darling (Victoria). B. A. Barnctt (Victoria). L. Fleetwood-Smith (Victoria). E. IT. Bromley (Victoria). IT. Ebeling (Victoria). D. G. Bradman (New South Wales). A. F. Kippax (New South Wales). S. J. McCabe (New South Wales). W. A. Brown (New South Wales). A. Z. Chippcrfield (New South Wales). W. A. Oldfield (New South Wales). W. J. O'Reilly (New South Wales). C. V. Grimmett (South Australia). T. M. Wall (South Australia). Bromley shaped really well ill Sydney in recent Sheffield Shield matches and is a useful left-hand bowler and excellent fieldsman. He played in one Test match against England last year and scored 20 and 7. Brown literally played himself into the team during the recent Sheffield Shield games. Woodfull will be captain of the team and Bradman vice-captain. The selectors for the tour will be Woodfull, Bradman and Kippax. Arthur Chipperfield's inclusion came as a surprise, although lie is regarded as a splendid batsman, a promising slow bowler and a magnificent slip fieldsman. He comes from Newcastle. He made a fine century against the Englishmen on their last tour. Barnctt is the second wicket-keeper. He is a promising left-hand batsiuan, which accounted for his selection instead of the South Australian keeper, Walker, who has had previous Test match experience. Darling has been a prolific scorer in the past two seasons and did well in the last two Test matches when he aggregated 148 against England. He is a hard man to shift when he gets set. Ebeling has not played very much owing to his inability to leave his werk. He bowls a medium fast right hand and batsmen treat him with respect. He is also a fair batsman and a good field. Fleetwood-Smith originally -was a right-hand bowler but became a lefthander after an accident. He bowls an off break to right-hand batsmen. There is much speculation as to how he will fare in England. Public opinion generally is pleased with the team, although a few cricket writers are disappointed that places were not found for Fingleton, Richardson, Cliilvers and possibly Hill. Cricketing officials regard the team as a very strong one in all departments. Mr. Harold Bushby is the team's manager. The Board of Control decided, subject to suitable arrangements being made, that an Australian team shall visit South Africa in the 1935-36 season. Although the board did not adjourn until late last night no disclosures were made concerning the bodyline controversy. The meeting was to resume to-day. The critics of the morning papers generally applaud the choice of the team for England. They, however, express regret at the omission of Richardson and Fingleton.
