BETTING IN HOTEL.
THREE MEN PROSECUTED.
DUNEDIN POLICE RAID,

DUNEDIN, Wednesday. As the result of a police raid on Saturday, Alen Gourley, head barman, was charged with using the public bar of the Carlton Hotel as a common gaming house, and James Ernest Gillam and James Kennedy, assistant barmen, were charged with assisting. The police stated they found 13 envelopes containing betting slips covering a period of one month and relating to°race meetings throughout New Zealand. The amount of money recorded was £219. Four hundred and fifty doubles were laid in the month. Gourley was fined £50, Gillam £15 and Kennedy £5.
