MAORI PLEADS GUILTY.

THEFT OF STATE FUNDS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GISBORNE, thie day. Henare Poananga, a clerk in the employ of the Native Land Department, pleaded guilty in the Police Gourt to-day to the theft of £6 3/C, the property of the Government. He was admitted to probation. Detective McLeod stated that accused had been stationed at Ruatoria in connection with the development scheme and unemployment relief. He had drawn a cheque for work which had not been .completed and had kept the proceeds.

The magistrate made an order for the restitution of the money.
