CRUISE MARRED.
WANGANELLA AT RUSSELL.
HEAVY EASTERLY GALE
(By Wireless. —Special Reporter.)
WANGANELLA, this day.
Owing to an easterly storm the Wanganella Avill not visit the Great Barrier this cruiee, but will remain at Russell until late to-night, when she will leave for Auckland direct.'
When the storm increased last night the weather became thick outside, and to-day a swell is rolling into the Bay of Islands. A passengers' vote taken after breakfast showed a two to one majority against making the eix-hour trip in a rough sea to Port Fitzroy. Although fully a hundred were willing to face the conditions, there was a hint at bravado in their' attitude, for all knew the wind had been continuously in the east since Monday night and today was blowing a gale. Those who know the coastal weather gay it is the worst storm for some months, and think the Wanganella will have a, rough trip to Auckland to-night. More visits were made aehore to-day, and many who were unable to see the Waitangi Maori settlement yesterday went there by launch to-day. Despite misty rain, the shore trips are well patronised. The discomforts of the weather are being accepted cheerfully, and are considered slight as against the disappointment of having to restrict the cruiee. The attraction on ship last night was a talkie picture programme, and to-day deck cricket and sports are being staged. The big concluding event to-night will be a fancy dress ball.
