OLD RAILWAY SITE.
ROADING TO BE COMPLETED,
"We are now in a position to take the properties necessary for the completion of the loading scheme at the old railway station site." said the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, this morning. He added that the council had to proceed under the provisions of the Public Works Act. An amount of £40,000 was involved, and of that amount £15,000 would be returned by the Government on the completion of the work. Debentures for the £25,000 had been sold by the council, so that the necessary money was available to complete the scheme. The building owned by Duthie, Bridson and Company wo.uld come clown for the continuation of Commerce Street, and eventually Spedding's building, in Quay Street, would make way for the extension of Gore Street, which would be continued through to Quay Street. The work would proceed at the earliest moment.
