INFLUX LIKELY.

TOURISTS TO DOMINION. MATSON PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN. An expenditure in the United States this vear of £50,000 on tourist publicity, in which New Zealand will benefit, is announced by Mr. J. E. Ryan, n-eneral passenger manager of tne Matson Navigation Company, who with Mr H. E. Pippin, passenger trail:-.:' manager for Australia and New Zealand arrived at Auckland by the Monterey to make a motor tour of the Dominion.

Mr. Ryan stated in an interview that ho had come to see New Zealand's attractions for the purpose of planning the approaching publicity campaign The Dominion had the reputation of possessing ideal attractions for every tourist, and lie had no doubt that it would benefit considerably in the near future from an increase in United States visitors. Under normal conditions the company hoped to establish a flow of tourists from America to New Zealand extending over eight months of the year, with substantial passenger lists on each trip. Although a busy time was expected for this season, there should be a marked increase next summer. It required only a return to more normal conditions for the already great interest in New Zealand by Americans to become manifest.

In the opinion of Mr. Ryan a series of first-class moving pictures dealing with the country's scenic beauties would be of great value in the United State- 1 . "We have really two distinct classes of tourists to deal with," Mr. Rjan added. "There arc the wealthy people who like to winter abroad and are prepared to spend extended holidays in other parts of the world. Many of these people are showing a definite interest in the South Seas. Then there are other people, not so wealthy, perhaps, but including some of the professional class, who like to take a six weeks vacation during the American summer. We can give these people a fortnight's trip through the South Seas, a fortnight's tour of New Zealand, and then take them back to America, all within six weeks."
