SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

An informal surprise party was taken to the residence of Mrs. H. Goodwin, of Stanley Bay, on Saturday evening, when an enjoyable time was spent in singing and dancing. The living room was attractively arranged with large pink and red cactus dahlias. The Kev. A. J. Seamer's Maori Mission Choir is touring the North and giving most enjoyable entertainments. Concerts were given last week at Miniwai, Waimauku and Woodhill. The Methodist New Zealand missions are celebrating their 112 th anniversary, and the proceeds of the tour are in aid of the Methodist Home Mission Department.

The Parish Hall at Takapuna was the scene of a colourful gathering when .Miss Dorothy Spriggs and Mr. U. Nicolson entertained over 100 guests to a " Niglit in Honolulu." The stage was tastefully decorated with greenery and garlands of dainty (lowers, affording a splendid setting for Puiiia Lindsay's South Sea Troubadours. The most popular and perhaps most novel item of the evening was that rendered by Miss Tuila Taniatoa, who was deservedly encored for her exhibition of the hula. Items were also given by Messrs. J. Kingsford and G. Willis. Among those present were: Misses Louise Williamson, M. Bartruni, J. Brown, G. Wvnyard, B. Goodwin, H. Elliott. M. Nash, M. Brown. R. Wildon, L. Ogilvie, W. Clarke, M. Deighton, 13. Collingwood, M. Brown, J. Cumming, 1. Young, F. Norris, B. Gardner, M. Beatt.y, E. McCarthy, E. Kingsford, P. Higson. J. Cadness, G. l'oote, R. Foote, T. Williams, L. Wood, E.
