WARSHIP AGROUND.
Nelson Runs on Shingle Bank at
Portsmouth.
REFLOATED ON THE TIDE,
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, January 12. The battleship Nelson ran aground when she was leaving Portsmouth for her spring cruise, but was refloated this evening about two hours before high tide.
Accompanied by tugs, the Nelson proceeded at once to the harbour for inspection. During the day she was lightened by the removal of some of her ammunition and fuel.
When the battleship ran aground the crew of 1350 were mustered on the afterdeck and ordered to jump up and down in an endeavour to free the vessel. The effort, however, proved unsuccessful.
The battleship Nelson (33,500 tons) is one of the three biggest ships in the British Navy. The Hood is the largest, and the Eodney is the same size as jjfie Neleon. '
