The Maharajah Mumar of Vizianagram's cricket team, which includes the majority of India's Test players, defeated .D. R. Jardine's Marylebone eleven at Benares by 14 runs. This was the first occasion on which any official English team has been beaten in this country. The home side batted first and made 124. Townsend took five wickets for 30 runs, and Nichols three for 39. The visitors in their first innings were all dismissed for 111, the lowest score of the tour. It was the first time they had scored less than their opponents. Valentine made 53. Nissar took six wickets for 00 and Karaji three for 40. The maharajail's eleven compiled 140 in the second innings, and the Englishmen being dismissed for 139, left the Indians victors by 14 runs.
