THEFT OF LAMB.
WESTFIEIiD EMPLOYEE FINED
Peter Torgerson appeared before Mr. F. H. Lcvien, S.M., in the Otahuhu Magistrate's Court this morning charged with the theft of a carcase. Sergeant J. Cahill said accused was on night duty at the Westfield freezing works on December 14. At 9 p.m. he went to the freezing chamber and took out a lamb carcase, put it in a sack, and concealed it among old timber in the yard. Later in the evening he went to remove it, and he was accosted by the watchman, who asked him what the sack contained. He replied "Firewood," but later admitted having taken the lamb. "This ie an impudent theft," said the sergeant. "He was a trusted employee."
In fining accused £3, the magistrate said that rather loose methods were adopted in checking.
