CHAIN GANG SYSTEM.

ABOLISHED IN GEORGIA,

ATLANTA (Georgia), December 30.

Georgia's chain gangs, made famous by the film, "I Am a Fugitive from a Cliain Gang," are apparently doomed. The State Administration has succeeded in obtaining funds from the Federal Government for the construction of a modern prison. This prison, when built, will house a large number of the men now in the chain gangs. The prison will be industrialised, and the prisoners will work. The chairman of the State Prison Commission, Mr. E. L. Rainey, declared that tlio chain gang system was an admirable one, but that there its purpose had been served, since there was little work on the roads.
