TO KEEP DOOR OPEN.

French Attitude to German Demands. PROPOSALS CONCILIATORY. (Received 9.30 a.m.) PARIS, January 1. It is understood that the memorandum in reply to Her Hitler's demands is still undergoing revision. Modifications have been made folowing a conversation between the Premier, M. Cliautemps, and the Belgian Foreign Minister, M. Paul Hymans. If possible the contents will be communicated to the British, Italian and Belgian Governments before M. Poncct, French Ambassador to Berlin, returns to Germany. It is claimed that the French proposals are conciliatory and designed to keep "the door open, and that they should dispel any suggestion of French intransigeance.
