SERVICES TO COUNTRY. CAREERS OF RECIPIENTS. Lord Evelyn Cecil is a barrister and a director of the Southern Railway Company, chairman of the Foreign and Colonial Investment and other Trust Companies, and deputy-chairman of the Clerical, Medical and General Life Assurance Society. He was born 011 May 30, 1805, and" educated at Eton and Oxford. He was private secretary to the Prime Minister (the Marquis of Salisbury) 1891-92 and 1895-1902. He was created at G.B.E. in 1922.

Lord Elton was a Fellow of Queen's College, Oxford. He was born on March 29, 1892, and educated at Rugby and Oxford, joined the 4th Hampshire Regiment as second-lieutenant in September, 1914, served in Iraq, and was a prisoner of war in Asiatic Turkey, 1910-18. He joined the Labour party, but \Vas expelled, as a supporter of Mr. Mac Donald, in 1931. Lord Falle has represented Portsmouth North in the House of Commons since 191(3. Born in ISOO, he was educated at Victoria College, Jersey, and at Cambridge, and was called to the Bar in 1885. Later lie was Judge of the Native Tribunal, Cairo. He served as temporary major ill the Royal Field Artillery in Britain and France, 19141918. 'He was crcatcd a baronet in 1910. Lords Morris ana Newton. Lord Morris is chairman of Morris Industries, Limited, Morris Motors, Limited, Wolseley Motors (1927), Limited, Morris Commercial Cars, Limited, tho Morris Oxford Press, Limited, and other companies. He was born in October 10, 1577, and was educated at Cowley, Oxford. In 1929 he was created a baronet. Lord Newton, who was created a knight in 1019, has represented Cambridge Borough in the House of Commons since 1922. He was born on July 14, 1579, and educated ac Eton and Cambridge. He was assistant-secretary to the Ministry of Reconstruction, 1917-19, and chairman of the National Agricultural Council and Water Companies Association. New Privy Councillors. Aga Sultan Mahomet Shah, known as His Highness the Aga Khan, who lias been made a Privy Councillor, is the spiritual head of the Kliojah sect and the rccogniised leader of the Indian Mahoinmedans. After the outbreak of the Great War ho gave unmistakable proof of his loyalty to the British nation. In England lie is well known as a keen supporter of racing, and a wealthy patron of the stud stock sales. Another new Privy Councillor, Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, who was created a knight in 1923, is a leading Liberal. He was a member of the Imperial Council, 1910-20; and lie represented India at the Imperial Conference in London in 1923. Lord Stanley, who has been created a Privy Councillor, has since 1931 been Parliamentary and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty and he has represented the Fylde division of Lancashire in the House of Commons since 1922. He is a member of the Imperial War Graves Commission.

Other Awards. Of the new baronets, Sir Ralph Glyn has represented the Abingdon division of North Berks in the House of Coinmoils since 1924 and has been Parliamentary private secretary to the Prime Minister since 1931. Sir William McClintock, who was created a knight in 1922, was a member of the Commission on Income Tax and now is on the Board of Referees on Excess Profits Duty and tho Company Law Committee. Sir Percy J. Pybus formerly was Minister of Transport, but resigned in February, 1932. Ho represents Harwich in the House of Commons. Until he entered tho National Government he was associated with many companies.

Commander Britten, who has been knighted, was appointed to the command of the Berengaria in December, 1930. Formerly lie commanded the j Aquitania, the Mauretania and the : Samaria. I Sir Cedrie Hardwicke is a wellknown English actor. He was born in 1593 and made his first appearance on the stage in London at the Lyceum Theatre ill "The Monk and the Woman." Earl Stanhope has been Under-Secre-tary of State for War since November, 1931. Earl Hare wood is the husband of the Princess Royal, whom he married in < 1922 as Viscount Laseelles.
