LAUNCH REFLOATED

MISHAP AT COWES BAY. Stranded hard and fast oil Eel Rock, at the entrance to Cowes Bay, the 40ft cruising launch Duchess was successfully refloated this morning. The launch, which is the property of Mr. R. L. Stewart, of Waitangi Road, Ponsonbv, was going from Arran Bay to Cowes Bay at 9.30 a.m. yesterday when the rock was struck. The tide was falling rapidly, and the launch was caught in a natural cradle in the rock. As the boat settled, she heeled to starboard and stove in two planks. Launches and dinghies from Cowes Bay hastened to the scene, but efforts to tow the craft off were at first unsuccessful. Temporary repairs were effected, and three anchors were taken out to the windward in an effort to refloat the launch when the tide rose. News was received in Auckland at noon that the Duchess had been successfully refloated and was returning to Auckland.
